Since Peter Ehret was born about 1790 according to his confirmationrec o r d. His father is not known, but he must be the son of eitherChristia n o r J ohn Ehret (brothers) because no other candidates wereavailable. U n f ortunately no baptismal record can be found. In 1789, Pastor Luetgemo v e d from the area. Only five baptismal records exist for the ZionLuther a n C hurch in 1790 and it is not known who performed the rites. We k n o w that he died at age 26, was married to Anna Maria Zehner fromthe Ho r n B ible records. A baptismal record exists of apparently his onlychild G e o rge. It is my theory that Peter's father was Christian's brother J o h n for thefollowing reasons: 1. The name Johannes Peter Ehret is l i s ted in church records for anearlier period in Northampton Co. It seem s l i kely that the Ehrets of Westmoreland Co. came fromNorthamption, alt ho u gh no evidence so far establishes the connection. Since it was custo m a ry for Germans at this period to use theirsecular middle name, it wou l d b e a good guess that Peter was baptizedJohannes Peter Ehret. 2. P e t er's child George moved his family to Iowa between 1850 and 1860.It s e e ms more likely that he would do this if he had fewer ties toChristian ' s f amily, all of whom remained in Westmoreland Co.
