Johann Everard Bührer

Shortly after Everhardt married Margaret they settled in Pittsburgh, w h e re Everhart carried on butchering in Connellsville, Pennsylvania for s o m e time until the spring of 1817, when he moved to Uniontown where he f o l lowed his occupation as a cattle dealer and butcher until 1849. He w a s s ucceeded in the butchering business by his sons. For a number of ye a r s Everhardt was one of the directors of the Poor of Fayette County. F r o m 1858 - 1862 he was superintendent of the Eastern Division of the Na t i onal Road . He was on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Fayette C o u nty from its organization in 1858 until his death in 1876. Everhart B i e rer bought property on Mill Street and erected a two-story brick resi d e nce which he occupied and had his slaughter house near the present si t e o f the Hogsett mill. Mr. Bierer purchased the L. W. Stockton mansio n , 1 850, and lived there for some time. He purchased 38 acres on the so u t h side of the National Road from the Veech estate and six acres from J a m es Bryon. Here he lived and conducted the farm for many years. Mr . B i e rer, by industry and frugality, amassed quite a fortune and was one o f t h e sound business men of the town. He died 2 August 1876. Eliza ow ne d a nd occupied much of the estate in later years. The Stockton mansio n w a s located on the North side of W. Main Street. The Bierer home the y l a st lived in was on the South side of W. Main Street. The story is t ol d t hat when Everhart's wife, Margretta died, he remarried and Margret t a' s daughters proceeded to put him out of his home. He built a brick h o u se at the end of the lot from where the girls lived.
