Memory Horatio TURNER

"M. H. Turner, a merchant of Wolfe City, Hunt County, Texas, was born in Spartanburg district, South Carolina, November 22, 1851, a son of Randolph and Eleanor (Wingo) Turner, both of whom are also natives of Spartanburg district. Randolph Turner was a successful planter,served in the Civil War, Confederate Army, Holcomb's legion, and died in 1885, in his fifty-eighth year. Mrs. Eleanor Turner is a daughter of Pascal Wingo, of Spartanburg district, South Carolina, and is still living, the mother of ten children--Calhoun, Wallace V., Memory H., William C., Mattie, Cora, Alice, Sallie, Mamie and Lizzie."
"M. H. Turner moved to Texas in 1870 and settled in Hunt County. He began the mercantile business in that county in 1873, forming a partnership, under the name of Zimmerman & Turner. He was so engaged until 1876 when he sold out and went to California, remaining nearly a year on the Pacific slope. He returned to Texas and began the cattle business. In 1878 he again opened a store at Wolfe's Mill, and since that date he has been a resident of Wolf's Mill (since the change of name, Wolfe City), being now the oldest merchant in point of residence in the town. He has accumulated considerable property, and, being well liked, does a large business."
"In July, 1878, Mr. Turner maried Lula, daughter of O. P. Richardson, originally from Spartanburg district, South Carolina, but moved to Fannin county, Texas, some years ago where the subject's wife was mainly reared. To the union of Mr. Turner and wife is born one child, Fred."
