Captain Alkana Gilbert WINGO
(19 Mar 1844 - 17 Dec 1928)
Served in the Confederate Army from Giles County, Virginia. He entering on April 18, 1862 for the term of the war. Was in the 2'nd Company H, 36'th Regiment, Virginia Infantry. Was captured at Piedmont, Virginia on June 5, 1864, transfered to prision camp at Staunton Virginia on June 8, 1864, then to Camp Morton, Indiana, and exchanged on March 4, 1865 at City Point Virginia, via Baltimore, Maryland and was listed as one of 3,499 paroled Confederate prisoners of war, Roll No. 166, Ft. Delaware, Delaware.
(The 36'th Regiment, Virginia Infantry was also known as the 2'nd Kanawha Regiment Virginia Infantry and was organized on July 15, 1861 as 10 companies, reduced to 8 companies on August,1861 and again reorganized on May 15, 1862.)
Moved to Athens County, Ohio.
