William WINGO
(2 Feb 1775 - 1848)
Tazewell County, Virginia was organized in December 1799 from portions of Russell and Wythe Counties. In 1800 the Governor ordered all able bodied males between the ages of 18 and 50 to serve terms in their county militia. Tazwell County established a series of forts and block houses along its frontier to protect settlers and allied indians as protection against hostile indians and foreign invaders.

Served in the Indian Wars and the War of 1812 against Great Britain. Enlisted around 1803 with the 2'nd Battalion, 112'th Regiment of the Tazewell County, Virginia Militia. Elements of this unit served in the War of 1812 at Fort Norfolk, Virginia in December 1814 and also served under General Andrew Jackson in the Indian War with the Creek Indians in the South.
No bounty warrant file and no pension number.
