In the town of Frankfort, Franklin County, Ala., on the 24th of April, 1854, after an illness of about one month, sister Mary A. E. Wingo, wife of Rev. G. L. Wingo, departed this life, in the full triumphs of a living faith. Her age was twenty-eight years; and from an early period in this short career, unto the hour of her demise, she was an acceptable member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. A God loving and God-fearing woman, walking in his commands and ordinances blameles, ever exerting a hallowed influence upon the minds of those with whom she was associated, she walked every way worthy of the vocation wherewith she was called, embodyng the Christian graces in her heart, and displaying them in her walk. As a child, a sister, a wife, a mother, or in any other sphere, she was laudable and worthy of imitation. but alas! the humble Christian, the good wife, and the affectinate mother, is not; for God has taken her. And in her death, virtue and piety here have lost a votary, but heaven has gained a jewel.
She was the mother of three children, two of whom have gone before her to the heavenly world, and one of whom, an unconscious babe, she left behind in the embrace of its bereft and disconsolate father, and went to rejoin the blessed spirits of the former in glory. "One family we dwell in him."
Her last illness was borne with that resignation characteristic of Christianity; and when the hour of her dissolution came, not a cloud intercepted the welcome smiles of her Savior, but all was peace and glory, until her triumphant spirit, freed from its tenement of clay, winged its flight to the regions of bliss. After which, her body was interred beside her departed children--
"Where sweet be its rest till Jesus bid it rise
To hail him in triumph descending the skies."
