William Brewster "Will & Bruce" WALLACE Sr.

(6 Nov 1871 - 20 Nov 1953)

It is possible that at the age of 12 he became his families primary breadwinner for his mother and two sisters plus an aunt. He was a very hard worker and a good provider for his family. He grew cotton and corn. He raised tobacco, peanuts, two types of sugarcane and had a syrup mill, watermelons, cantaloupes, beans, peas, squash, okra, etc. He also had an orchard.
He sold his produce in Anniston. In the early days everything was transported by mule and wagon. He also raised hay for the winter. Back then hay was mowed and moved loose from the fields to the barn and later someone with a bailer came to the barn and the hay was removed from the barn and then after it was bailed it was placed back in the barn. Everything was labor intensive.
