Andrew Jackson BROWN

(22 Sep 1769 - 1870)

This is a FIRST DRAFT of Andrew Brown and his descendants. There is still work to be done to determine the parents and other ancestors of Andrew.

The descendants of Andrew can be found in Group 55 at the Brown Family DNA Project Site at FamilytreeDNA.com where additional information can be found about a different Andrew Brown Family that remained in Virginia. yDNA provides proof of a close family relationship between the two families.

I would appreciate comments, additions and especially corrections to this database. Please use GenForum or Rootsweb or e-mail me at wingoinfo@gmail.com.

Records show that Andrew Brown served under Colonel Elijah Clarke in the War of the Revolution but the DAR no longer supports membership through Andrew. Colonel Clarke states "Andrew Brown was a refugee while in possession of British Arms, and did his duty faithfully while under my command, is therefore entitled to a bounty of 250 acres of land". Andrew was 14 years old at the time. He is listed on page 377 of the Georgia Register of Revolutionary Soldiers by Knight and on page 265 in the Register of Georgia Revolutionary War Soldier's Graves. Unless noted otherwise the dates recorded for his emmediate family come from a Family Bible notarized for the State Archieves by Laura Satterfield. It was in the possession of W. H. Smith of Hartwell, Georgia at the time of this writing.

Burried in old section of Holly Springs Cemetery. Has DAR Marker, fieldstone with initials M. B.

Andrew moved to Wilkes County, Georgia which later became Elbert County and even later Hart County. Located near place called "Center of the World". This place was a Cherokee Nation trading center. Trails led from the Center in every direction.

Note: This info from Karen Thompson Ledford. She was in possession of a booklet (unknown source) entitled "The Andrew Brown Family of Albemarle County, Virginia and Elbert and Hart Counties, Georgia".
