Glenn Wingo of Waco (Texas) died January 20, 2006, in Waco, Texas. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas, with the Reverand Michael Moore, Pastor of First Baptist Church of Robinson, officiating. Visitation will be held for friends at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Robinson of Sunday, January 22nd from 2:oo-4:00 p.m. Glenn is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Alma H. Weatherford Wingo, who were married on July 10, 1938, in Palestine, Texas. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Adrian and Cynthia Wingo and two grandchildren, Michele and Christopher Glen Wingo, all of Spring, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Glenn was born on November 9, 1915 in Clarkson, Texas, near Cameron, to James Calvin and Bessie Segler Wingo, the fifth of six children. Vivian (Adams), David, Gladys (Starkweather), Dorothy (Snedeker) and J. C. Wingo, all deceased. Glenn was a loving brother-in-law to three sisters, Gwen Weatherford Honeycutt, Mary Lou Weatherford Heinze, both deceased, and Libby Weatherford Lee of Houston. The family moved to Houston in the early 1920's and Glenn was educated in the Houston schools and later worked for the Houston Transit Co. until his induction into the Armed Forces on May 13, 1942 during WWII. He was stationed at the AAF Regional Hospital of SAACC in San Antonio after basic training were he quickly attained the rank of Staff Sergant. He served in that capacity until 3/10/45 when he shipped out to EAME Central Europe with the 862nd Engineer Avaition Battalion near Berlin where he served until the war ended and he received his Honorable Discharge on 2/24/46. After returning home he began working for the City of Houston Health Dept. as Milk Inspector and was transfered to the Waco area dairy operations until his retirement in 1978. After retirement Glenn enjoyed taking care of his small herd of cattle and grazing pasture on his farm near Robinson. Glenn was a man of few words but very friendly, alert and energetic with a ready smile and wilingness to help friends and family with any problems. He had a life-long love of calf roping and for several years was a volunteer working the arena during the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Robinson and enjoyd worshipping and fellowship with the church family. If desired, Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of robinson's Youth Fund in lieu of flowers.
