Thomas born in Hampshire Co. VA and died in Harrison Co. VA (both places now in WV). He served as private in John McGuire's company, and as a lieutenant in Capt. Thomas Bells's company of Col. Grayson's Regiment, Continental troops. He later transferred to a Regiment commanded by Col. Nathanial Gist.
