John Robey
(1714 - 1804)
John Robey obtained a lease on 42 acres in Zachaiah Manor on June 23, 1762. By 1768, the lease was in the possession of Thomas Luckett. The annual rent to Lord Calvert was 8 shillings, four pence.
1771-a cousin, Thomas and Eleanor Robey, and family, migrated to Rowan Co. (Iredell Co. today), NC. Eleanor lies in one of the earliest grave in Lewis Graveyard of Iredell Co. (she died in 1776). John's family began to migrate to Rowan county. Nathan Robey is found on the 1778 Tax Lists of Rowan. In 1800, Leonard was listed as owning 318 acres with house and three outbuildings (including a barn and a still house for whiskey making) all valued at $500; Tobias had 149 acres with three houses and at least one, perhaps two, stables, valued at $96.50; and John had 161 acres, three houses, a barn and a stable assessed at $185.50.
