Birth

George Hubbard, one of the founders of the town, was born, as is supposed, in the southeastern part of England, in 1601.

Event

His name appears on the list of the original settlers of Hartford, in 1639. He was assigned six acres of land by courtesy of the town and resided there for some years.

About 1650 he left Hartford, carrying with him a commission bom the Colonial government as Indian Agent and Trader for the Mattabesett District, afterwards named M1ddletown, of which he became an original settler.

At a town meeting on 17 December 1666, the town voted to allow him 40 shillings for sweeping the meeting house and keeping the glass. In 1666 he was also, by the county court, “freed from watch, ward and training.”

Death

He was buried in Riverside, Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut
