Biographical Sketch
Abraham DOOLITTLE, a Puritan, at the time of his majority, came with his wife to British America in search f a home in the new world to escape the religious tyranny of his native land and to enjoy personal and political liberty.He arrived in Boston by 1640 and by 1642 he had moved to New Haven, Connecticut where he built a home and took the oath of fidelity and was made chief executive officer of the New Haven colony at the age of 25.
He was chosen to be a deputy to the general assembly in Hartford seven times.
In 1669 he settled in Wallingford, CT were he became treasurer in 1671. In 1673, he was made sergeant of the first train band and at the time of King Philip's war in 1675 he was a member of the vigilance committee.
Death
Abraham is buried in Wallingford, CT and his gravestone is the oldest in the cemetery.Endnotes
