Immigration
William MATLACK immigrated to West New Jersey, British America on the Kent with the first English settlers in 1677. He came as a bound servant to Daniel Wills, whom he served for four years as a carpenter.Land Record
William bought a 100 acre tract of land in Chester Twp., Burlington county, NJ in 1684 where he built his home.Biographical Sketch
William and two other land holders signed a contract with native Chief Tallaca, promising, "one match coat, one little runlet of rum and two bottles of rum in exchange for defense against other natives."William served the colony as constable, overseer of the highways, tax collector and as grand juryman.
