Walter C. Weis, Sr., joined the L.A. City Fire Department in 1930 and retired an Engineer in approximately 1958. Prior to his entry into the fire department, he was the service manager for Dickson Chevrolet in Los Angeles.
Walter had quit school in the eighth grade. He played semi-pro baseball in St. Louis before coming to Los Angeles. While living in Los Angeles, he played industrial league (indoor league) baseball for the L.A. Casting Company as a "ringer".
