Military
Richard R. LIPPINCOTT enlisted at the beginning of the civil war as a private in Company I, Sixty-first Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served three years, participating in all the battles of the Army of the Potomac, including the Wilderness, both engagements at Fredricksburg, Fair Oaks, Antietam and Gettysburg. He passed through the rands of promotion to first lieutenant of Company I, was subsequently adjutant and major of the regiment.[Taken from: Genealogical and Memorial History of the State of New Jersey:
