James Wright

James WRIGHT, the son of Thomas, became a land owner in Wethersfield, Hartford, CT in 1657. He received a deed of gift in The Great Island of 32 acres, "to run in a straight line over the Island, from River to River;" also "a home, barn and home lot of 3 acres (7 Oct 1657)." He was the largest owner on the Island by inheritance and purchase. He married first: Mary _____, who died s.p. 6 Oct 1659; married second: Dorcas (daughter of Jonas) WEEDE of Stamford, formerly of Wethersfield on 20 Nov 1660.

James owned and occupied the south end of The Island (which he deeded to his son, James, Feb 1747/48); though he rem. to and resided for a time at Middlesex and is said to have been the first settler of Portland, Middlesex, CT. His wife, Dorcas, died on 24 Dec 1692; he died on 24 Dec 1728, in his 88th year leaving a widow (third marriage), Mary, who died 20 Oct 1740 in her 80th year.
