Notes
Emigration
John HINSHAW became a member of the Society of Friends, Grange Friends Meeting.Marriage
Elizabeth BELSHAW was John's house servant. Both John and Elizabeth were disowned for marrying "contrary to discipline." The Grange MM Book of Disownments seems to indicate that there was something of a scandal connected with this marriage. On 12 May 1716, the Grange MM recorded:A Testimony Given Forth Against John Hinshaw and Elizabeth His Wife: John Hinshaw of Edneycreaney a man well stricken in years . . . leting out his minde to a lustful liberty after his servant - viz: Elezebath Belshy a yong woman whoe of late would have gon under our name . . . and committed furnycation with her, notwithstanding the timely warneing and friendly admonishon given to the sd John to put the sd Elezebath out of his house and to intertaine another in her stead, intill the accomplishment of their intended maradge, but he rejected our councell notwithstanding his promises to the contrary and the better to cover their transgressions went to a preest and was maryed.
