Notes
Birth
According to family legend, relatd by Rosmary Grace (Zimmerman) Mick, Augusta worked as a waitress in a tavern. Around the age of 16, she had an affair with one of the patrons (a soldier) and became pregnant. This resulted in the birth of Fred Duing. Because of her predicament, Herman Duing married her in order to legitimize her son. Based on the birth dates and ages provided by various family sources, this marriage would have taken place somewhere between 1895 and 1903.Herman was the proprietor of a tavern in St. Louis, MO (800 Clark Avenue, circa 1884) and thus this may have taken place in his establishment. It helps also to explain the age difference between him and Augusta.
