Birth
According to Absalom HINSHAW's obituary of 9 Jan 1901, he was born on Aug 21 not Aug 3 as listed by previous sources.Obituary
Absalom HINSHAW Obituary:Son of Abel and Nancy HINSHAW, was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, 21 August 1819, died in Randolph county, Indiana, 31 December 1900, age 81 years, 4 months and 10 days. When eight years of age he moved with his parents to Highland county, Ohio, and about two years later came to Randolph county where he resided the remainder of his life. He was a member of the Friends' Church from his early boyhood. He was married to Mary J. McKINISTER, 7 September 1842, and to them was born one child, Iram, who is still living. His wife died 6 January 1845; and on 23 September 1845, he was united in marriage to Eliza CARTER who survives him. To this union was born five children, four of whom, Eliza, Elwood and Columbus HINSHAW and Mary M. HUNT are yet living. For nearly fifty-five years Absalom and Eliza lived together as husband and wife within a few miles of his decease, and for over fifty years they have resided on the farm where he died. He was one of the pioneer fathers who saw the wild and unbroken forests slowly disappear before the march of civilization and progress and give way to broad and fertile farms. With a brave heart and a strong hand he contributed his portion to the toil and hardships so necessary to make this well-improved and beautiful country. Absalom HINSHAW was well beloved in the community where he lived for more than half a century. He had a cheery word for all with whom he was associated, and was ever ready to accommodate his neighbors. He loved his family and was ready to assist them at all times; he was an honest man, a man of strict integrity, and it can be truly said of him that a good husband and father, a kind neighbor, an honest, upright citizen, having lived more than man's allotted days, has gone to his final resting place.
The last will and testament of Absalom HINSHAW, was probated 3 Jan. He leaves to his beloved wife, Eliza HINSHAW, the home farm consisting of ninety acres, the farm bought of Elwood HINSHAW. At death of his wife he bequeathed land to his daughter, May HINSHAW, to have and hold in fee simple forever. To Columbus HINSHAW he leaves 106 acres to hold forever. All personal property is left to his wife, and at her death all personal, notes, proceeds of farm, etc., to his children, share and share alike.
