| Death-shared | 10 Jun 1918 | (Rachel Elizabeth Bayless) "Rachel E. Mathes was born in Indiana on Jan 1, 1840 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cora Warnstaff, June 10, 1918, age 78 years, 5 months and 10 days. She made her home with her daughter and family since the death of her husband over ten years ago. She has been in failing health ever since she was married, at the age of twenty years to George W. Mathes on August 7, 1856. To this union five children were born. Margaret Reynolds of Nichols, Joseph Mathes of Oklahoma, Marion Mathes of Oklahoma, Laura who died in infancy, Cora Warnstaff of Letts, Iowa. Everything was done to aid her in her long illiness and suffering but it seemed nothing could be done. If anything was said to her she would say: It is all right, my time is close at hand when I will meet my Savior face to face, who went to prepare a place for me. She has been a noble Christian, ever since she started in her Christian life, nothing has been too hard for her to do for her Master. She leaves to mourn her loss, four children, one sister, Mrs. Belle Stonebraker, one half sister, Mrs. Susan Knott, twenty-two grandchildren, fifteen great grand children, and a host of relatives and friends who were so kind to her in her suffering. Her remains were shipped to Cone, where she was laid to rest by the side of her husband. Editor's note! (Cora died 1955, scrapbook is now in the hands of her Grandson, Paul Warnstaff). This one and the death record above seems to support one another except for the place of her birth. There are a couple other minor errors as there usually are in obituaries. | | | |
