Jacob Bane

Jacob Bane was in partnership with his brother Abraham until the latter's mills burned and Abraham turned to farming. On July 1842, two months before his death, August 21, Jacob deeded the land on which the present Mt Hermon Church stands, which was a part of the tract he had received from his father, Nathan, along with the brick house and care of his mother and sister, Hannah. One of Jacob's grandchildren, son of William and Mary Patterson Bane was William Patterson Bane (Pat) known as the "Greene County Giant" and said to be the tallest man in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was 7'2" tall, when he died, March 17, 1912 at Washington, Pa. and is buried at Washington cemetery.
