Sir John Ashton
(Abt 1340 - 1403)
Sir John ASHTON of ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE is said to have been present, in 1370, at the siege of Noylon during the Hundred Years' War. He was, in 1386, a member of the retinue of John of GAUNT in Spain. In 1403, Sir John ASHTON of ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE was commissioned by Henry IV to muster forces against the Percys in their rebellion. He perished, in 1403, by drowning in a well at Norham.
