Captain Thomas Sprigg Sr.

"Greenup Witten Cecil": arrived in Maryland after 1650 from Northamptonshire, England; well to do planter; one of the first Justices of Prince George's Co; instrumental in development of Prince George's Co; owned 1000 acre tract called "Northampton", granted 1 Mar 1673, and 325 acre tract called "Kettering", granted 1 Aug 1686, on the west side of the Western Branch of Patuxent River; wd 9 May 1704.

Thomas SPRIGG (Sr.) was one of the Justices of Calvert County and of the Quorum, in 1658, 1661, 1667, 1669/70, and 1674. In 1661, his name stood at the head of the commmision showing that he was the presiding Justice for the county. He was commisioned High Sheriff of Calvert County on 1 April 1664, his commission expiring 4 May 1665. (Maryland Archives III. 490, 491, 520)
