Jeremiah Denton

Jerry settled in White Co., Tennessee about one mile from "Big Jerry" Denton. This was about 1806 and he remained there until his death.
Will of Jeremiah Denton
In the name of God Amen, I Jeremiah Denton of the State of Tennessee, and County of White, being sick, but of sound mind and memory, Do hereby make this my last Will and Testament. First I command my body to the dust, to be buried with a decent christian burial, and my Soul to God who gave it, and
touching my worldly estate, wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with. I bequeath and in the following manner give.
1st. I give to my beloved wife, Sarah the one fifth part of the value of two hundred acres of land, wherein I now live. Also my Sorrel draw, saddle and bridle. Also our feather bed and furniture, during her her natural life.
2nd. It is my will, that my four sons, Ozias, Isaac, John and William, have the balance of said two hundred acres, tract of land, to be equally divided between them.
3rd. I give unto my daughter Ann Gettings one dollar.
4th. I give unto my four daughters Lovicy McDaniel, Mahala Wright, Sarah Rogers, and Goldy Couch and my five Grand children, Clark Gettings, Jeremiah Gettings, John Gettings, Charlain Gettings, and Ozias Gettings all of my personal property to be equally divided, so that my five grand children gets one equal share with one of my daughters, to be paid over to them by my executor, when they come to the age of twenty one years. I also give to my above named daughters Lovicy McDaniels, Mahala Wright, Sarah Rogers and Goldy Couch, and my five grand children, one tract of land, containing 60 1/2 acres, lying in White County Tennessee, in the Cove of gum Spring mountain to be divided in the same proportions as my personal property. I wish my Executor to pay my debts out of the property that I have give to my above named children and grand children. I wish him to sell all of the above named property and land according to law.
Lastly I appoint my beloved son Ozias Denton, my executor to this last will and testament, and I hereby disannul and disallow and revoke all former wills or wills, executors or Executors. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 8th day of August 1835.
