Ellis Bane

Soldier in Revolutionary War.

On this eighteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three personally appeared before the judges of the Court of Common Pleas of the County of Greene, State of Pennsylvania now sitting (it being a Court of record) Ellis Bane a resident of Rich Hill township in the county and state afor said aged ninety years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress dated June 17, 1832.
That he enlisted in the Army of the United States in June (early in the month) in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven in the Company commanded by Captain James O'Hara for and during the War - that the place where he was enlisted was about ten miles from Washington, Washington County, Pennsylvania. Deponent in a week or two after his enlistment was marched to Pittsburgh where he continued to serve under his enlistment till the sixth of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight when he employed Hanslit Taylor as a substitute to serve out deponent's time for which deponent gave him six and thirty pounds - whereupon deponent received a written discharge from Captain O'Hara, which is hinto annexed.
Deponent was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania on the 1st day of October 1743. (Old style) When deponent was about eleven years old he removed to Cape Capen, a branch of the Potomac in Virginia. Deponent remained till he was thirty years of age and then removed to Washington County, Pennsylvania where he was enlisted. Deponent lived upon the frontiers during the whole of the revolutionary war, and was frequently out on scout and as a spy, but from old age and coogruent loss of memory cannot undertake to state how long he was engaged in this way. He thinks however that he is justly entitled to be paid for one year including the eight months of his enlistment.
He hereby relinquishes every claim to a pension or an annuity except this pension and he declares that his name is not on the Pension Role of any agency in any State.

And the said Court do hereby declare their opinion that the above named applicant was a revolutionary war soldier and served as he states.
I, Enis Hook Proth, notary of the Court of Common Pleas of Greene County, Pennsylvania, do hereby certify that the foregoing contains the original proceedings of the said court in the matter of the application of Ellis Bane for a pension.
