Individual Details

William Logsdon

(1743 - 1809)

In 1783, Old Curly Bill and Elizabeth Logsdon settled in the "Nolyn" portiion of Virginia that became Kentucky. He came with Thomas & James Logsdon and Solomon Kessinger. They are lsited as residents of Phillip's Fort, near present-day Hodgensville. Old Curly Bill was apparently the only Logsdon man to be killed by indians, although the Logsdon family often fought them at Phillip's Fort. The Kessinger & Logsdon families were very closely allied.

On the same day, William Logsdon, Jr., married Elizabeth Carman, 3-Jul-1793, Betsy Logsdon married Solomon Kessinger II. Betsy's sister, Ruth, married Solomon's brother, Joseph Kessinger one week later. These young Logsdon adults were probably all children of William O. "Old Curly Bill" and Elizabeth Logsdon. The couples probably "jumped over a stick" with their loved ones at some earlier date, but came into Elizabethtown one week where they married legally. They probably lived a "fur piece" from proper authority.

ca 1768 when William "Old Curly Bill" was 25, he married Elizabeth Wilkerson, in Carroll Co., Maryland.
