Sarah was a bondswoman to William Penn, working as a servant in his home. Sarah and John were married at William Penn's home in Worminghurst, Sussex, England. She had been placed in Penn's house when she was ten years old after both parents had died. John was a servant in the home as well. Penns said to have signed marriage certificate. William Penn was an eminent Quaker and founder of the Colony of Pennsylvania in America.
