James LOUGHRON
(1812 - 10 Oct 1866)
James Loughron and Bridget Butler are Adam LOUGHRON's (wife Karen) great, great, great grandparents. They had 9 children, one of whom was Mary (Anthea's relative) and another was William (Adam's relative). I have found a great deal of information on the Loughron's but not much on James and Bridget. I have a copy of their marriage and death certificates but that is about all. Do you have any information on them? I would dearly love to know more about them. I have found a James Loughran who arrived in NSW in 1830 as a convict, but our James' death certificate states that he lived in Tasmania for 15 years.
The vessel "Martin Luther' sailed from Cork Harbour on 29 October 1841. On the passenger list was James and Margaret Loughron and Bridget and Honora Butler. These four young adults survived the sea voyage, but 9 adults and 3 children died during the four months and twenty days at sea. The ship anchored in Hobson's Bay on 9 February 1842, and James and Bridget were going to be married. They were married in St Francis Church, cnr Londsdale St and Elizabeth St, Melbourne. They were the 298th couple to be married in this church - a temporary wooden structure measuring 60ft x 20ft wide, it was three years old, and the priest who married them was Father Patrick Bonaventure Geoghegan, who belonged to the Franciscan Order. Their marriage can be found in the New South Wales Index, as Port Philip was attached to NSW.
