Colleen says: You say you do not have very much info on my grandmother Laura Alaphine Cavanough. I am sorry I haven't much either as she was a bit of a dark horse when it came to her family. From what she did tell me, her mother (my great grandmother) was born in France and her first name was Deseppo (not sure if spelt right). She, Deseppo, died in Longreach and was buried there between late fifties mid sixties. My grandmother Laura Alaphine died 31.05.1993 and is buried in Charters Towers.
Dolly Cuddy ( or Huddy?) is the same Laura Alaphine Whelan nee Cavanough. Dolly was her nick-name and was always referred to as Dolly by friends and family. Her marriage to my grandfather Alexander was her first marriage... She was married for the second time to Mick Davidson he also went by the name of Madigan he was a drover in Longreach and living with my nana Laura's (Dolly) sister Bella and husband Dave Grayson when she met him. I think she was in age between 40-50 when they married. They bought a house in Emu St Longreach and as a child i spent extended holidays there with her. I did not know Mick very well as he was away months at a time droving. I have the names of Nanas siblings that I did know as a child and they are as follows: Aunt Bella Grayson, Aunt Kate (Ramsey?), Aunt Eileen Clements, Aunt Daisy ?, and uncle Tom Cavanough. Aunt Bella and Aunt Eileen both died in Longreach and are buried there. My nana had a sister who I think was a half sister that she did not like to divulge much about, the first I heard mention of this sister May Worth or Wirth was when I was living in Mt. Isa Qld in 1985. A journalist from Sydney was writing a book about May and wanted to talk to my nana about her and their past. At the last moment my nana refused to talk to him. I do not know the journos name, but the story he was writing about May was about her life and the fact that she was the world's greatest contortionist when she was a young woman. At that time she was with Worths Circus and the story goes in my family that she was adopted by Worth's, and that she lived as a very wealthy lady in America and died there.
