Individual Details
Robert MCCONACHY
(1829 - 1918)
1852 Robert McConachy comes to Aireys as stock master for Tom Pearse. Two huts erected (one replacing the original hut), and construction of Angahook homestead commenced.
In 1852, Geelong butchers, Thomas Pease and Robert McConachy purchased the Anglohawk cattle station which ran from this side of Painkalac Creek back towards Anglesea.
Initially they built a slab house, a stone shed and 2 bark huts near here. This hut is a replica of one of the huts which survived until 1983 when it was destroyed by a bushfire.
The Angahook Bark Hut was destroyed by the Ash Wednesday Fires in 1983. Rebuilt in 1985 by W.R. & C.H. Schroeter, L. McConachy and J.S. Berg, descendants of T. Pearse and R. McConachy.
Officially opened by W.R. Schroeter on 19th April 1986.
