Martha SPERRING
(1818 - 1870)
Martha and her sister Eliza (2 years younger) came from Bath. Both were housemaids, literate and Protestant. In 1843 Martha married fellow-passenger (on the Strathfieldsaye) of Devon at St James, Melbourne, and they settled in the Geelong area, where Thomas set up a butcher's shop in Moorabool St. Daughters Emma Martha and Eliza Ellen were baptised at Christ Church in August 1854 and in early December 1857. By the time Martha's youngest child, Charles Robert, was born in 1860, the family was living as settlers at Aireys Inlet.
