Earl and Viola came to Montana after they found that Bonnie was on the way. Viola was a school teacher and Earl was a traveling jazz trumpet player. He decided that this was no life for raising a family, so went to Montana to herd sheep. His mother and sisters were already there since his mother had left his father many years before. He became a farmer rancher.
