Individual Details

Charles R. WOOTERS

(1845 - 1920)

During the Civil War Charles R Wootters enlisted from Poweshiek County in the 10th Iowa Infantry, Company "K". After looking up this record in the Roster of Iowa Soldiers, I find I am a bit puzzled by this record. It states that he resided in Montezuma, Iowa, a native of Ohio, enlisted Sept 18, 1861, mustered Sept 28, 1861, was transferred to Company "F". The Company "F" record stated that he died Feb. 26, 1862, Bird's Point, Mo.
I do believe that there is a possibility that there were two Charles Wooters from Poweshiek Co., both about the same age, and it is not our Charles Wooters that served in the Civil War. I have a census record with Charles and Mary Ann in Poweshiek Co, Ia. for 1870 and I traced the family to Ohio through other census records.
