"The driver of a dune buggy was killed on a Des Moines street Saturday, Larry Newlin, 23, of Des Moines, was killed outright when his vehicle went out of control, swerved onto a walkway and struck a utility pole."

“LARRY NEWLIN
Larry Kent Newlin, 23, of 32 S. E. Pleasantview Drive, was killed Saturday in an automobile accident at S. Union and Kirkwood Avenues.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Presbyterian Church in Johnston with burial at Highland memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Newlin was a native of Primghar and lived in Des Moines 22 years. He was and employed at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. plant. He was a 1965 graduate of Johnston High School and a member of United Rubber Workers Union Local 310 and Knox United Presbyterian Church. He was discharged recently from the Navy after serving in Vietnam.
Surviving are his wife, Delores; two daughters, Rebecca and Monica; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Newlin, Johnston; a sister, Mrs. Loyd Crabbs, Johnston; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Newlin, Earlham.”
