Charles Robert "Bobi" McLain, 86, of Grinnell, formerly of Montezuma, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at his home.
A memorial visitation will be held Thrusday, July 3, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Memorials may be made to Grinnell Home Health.
The son of William and Blanche icenbice McLain, he was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He attended rural schools in the Deep River and Guernsey areas. During World War II he served in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Sigourney from December 1942 to April 1946. On Jan. 2, 1946, he was united in marriage with Louise D. James. Together they farmed northeast of Montezuma in the Fairview community. In 1956, they purchased theri own farm. After farming, he went to work for Montezuma Implement for ten years, retiring in 1984.
He is survived by his wife of over 62 years, Louise of Grinnell; his children Connie Breuklander of Oskaloosa, Donna Waterbeck of Shellsburg, William McLain of Fair Oaks, Calif.; Robert McLain of Brooklyn, and Linda Slaymaker of Clarinda; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Forrest McLain; his sister Neva Bryant and one grandson.
