"George C. Cantrell enlisted April 1861 in C. S. A., as a corporal in Company I, 2nd Tennessee Regiment, Capt. W. B. Bates. He was in the first Battle at Bull Run. He came back to Tennessee and re-enlisted. He was at the Battle of Shiloh and with Gen. Joseph Johnston from Dalton to Atlanta. He was with General Hood at the battle at Franklin, Tennessee, where he was taken prisoner, after the fight at Nashville in the winter of 1864 and was sent to Camp Chase, Ohio. He returned home about March 1865. He moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1875; later lived a short time in Kentucky, returning again to the southwest. He and Bettie live at Muscogee, Indian Territory, where he is a contractor and builder." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 138.)
