"Some Veterans of the war with Mexico who were born in Sumner County: The following young men, all of whom died in the service of the United States as volunteers in the War with Mexico in 1846, were born in Sumner County (Tennessee), and whose parents, of course, were residents of the county at the time they were born, are all buried in the old Gallatin Cemetery with appropriate markers. This list gives the names of their families, all of whom can be classed among the early, if not the earliest settlers of the county: (All died in 1846) ... William L. Cantrell, aged 21 ..."
