"Oscar Cantrell was born in 1837. His parents died when he was young and his uncle, James Madison Cantrell, educated him. He lived a number of years in Atlanta, Georgia. He married and had two children, names not given. His wife and both his children died and he left Atlanta about 1878. His family lost trace of him. It is probable that this was the Oscar Cantrell who was living in Mt. Holly, South Carolina, some years ago, and who wrote that his father was William Cantrell, born in Spartanburg County, South Carolina in 1801. Oscar Cantrell, of Mt.
