"Jesse Cleveland Cantrell enlisted April 29, 1861 in 4th Georgia Regiment, Company F, from Gordon County. He was in many battles, including Second Bull Run, Fish's Hill, Cedar Run, Winchester, seven days' fight around Richmond. He went to the District of Columbis, from thence to Antietam, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He was also in the Battle of the Wilderness and at the surrender, April 9, 18665, at Appomattox Court House. He was in command of sharpshooters at Petersburg. For the past thirty years he has been a resident of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Jennie Crow, Jesse Cleveland's wife, was the daughter of William Pear Crow and Sarah Squires Crow; granddaughter of Peter Crow and Jane Corn Crow, of an old Virgina family."
