Rev. Charles Clifton Cantrell

"McMinnville native Rev. Charles Clifton Cantrell, 85, died June 20. The son of Hershel and Daisy Turner Cantrell, he graduated in 1944 from Athens College and in 1949 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored in several central Indiana Baptist churches, retiring from Oak Park Baptist Church in 1990, where he was named Pastor Emeritus. He also taught at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Indianapolis for 43 years. He was past president of the Indianapolis Ministerial Association and the Indianapolis American Baptist Association. He previously served as Chaplain for Wayne Township Fire Department and received clinical counseling training at Central State Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beatrice Eileen (Flowers) Cantrell; children and their spouses, Charles H. and Margaret Cantrell, Dean P. and Sherry Cantrell, Lydia E. and Jack Sandlin, Paul R. and Kim Cantrell; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Greenwood with Bernard Bee officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at G.H. Hermann Madison Avenue Funeral Home in Indianapolis and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Private graveside services will be held at Lincoln Memory Gardens."
