"Harlan Page Christie was educated at Wittenberg College. Enlisted in the Union Army, April 13, 1861. A month later was made second lieutenant, Company F, 2d Ohio; later was commissioned as adjutant of 58th Ohio; later was commissioned as adjutant of 58th Ohio; was at Battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Arkansas Post and Vicksburg, was detailed on the staff of Maj. Gen. John A. McClernand, as acting assistant adjutant general of 13th Army Corps, which position he held until his resignation, in May 1863. From 1864 to 1881 was engaged in mercantile business in Decatur, Illinois; in 1882 moved with his family to Chelsea, Massachusetts; in 1883 to Brooklyn, New York, where he now (1907) holds a position in the Finance Department of the city of New York. He was a member of Dunham Post, the first G. A. R. Post organized, and is now a member of Grant Post, No. 327, Brooklyn; is department commander of the state of New York of the Army and Navy Union; ex-commander of Roe Garrison, A. & N. U.; is a 32d degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of the orders of K. P. and I. O. O. F." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 48.)
