Information on the C. W. Cowden family and descendants from Thelma (Perkins) Cowden, 1991.

"Our mother, Thelma Juanita Perkins Cowden, passed away on July 11, 1998 after a lengthy illness. Mother was born on April 25, 1911 in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from high school in Clyde, Texas and attending McMurry College in Abilene, Mother taught school in the sands on Jal, New Mexico. There, at a dance on New Year's Eve, she met her lifetime partner, C. W. Cowden, who preceded her in death. After a spring wedding on June 24, 1933, they began their life together in the arid ranch land just across the border from Jal in Texas. As the family began to grow with children, Mother followed Daddy to Pasadena, California and back to Dallas as he pursued his increasing interest in the "New Age of Flight." The family moved to Grand Prairie in 1945.

The PTA was her favorite organization during the 32 years of her children's education. The Joy Class at the First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie was her longtime religious home. Mother was an accomplished artist, seamstress and chef. Mother is mourned by her children, Julia and James Robertson of Weatherford, Linda and Marvin Cowden of Grand Prairie, and Lida and Jim Woodul of Houston. Her eldest son, Buck, preceded her in death. She will always be remembered by her five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews as their belove "Mops." (from the funeral booklet of Thelma Perkins Cowden.)
