William Henry Wallen
(May 22, 1879 - October 6, 1958)
William Henry Wallen grew up on the farm of his father, Joseph B. Wallen near Kyles Ford, Tennessee. He lived for a time in a log cabin on the Wallen lands. Around 1915, he built a house on land acquired from his father. Many of his and Bertha's children were born in this house . His brothers, Loyd Joseph Wallen, Rufus Wallen, and Leander Wallen were his neighbors. The families all farmed for a living.
In the 1940's, William Henry Wallen sold his land in Hancock County and the family moved to a farm near Kingsport, Tennessee, known as the Bell Hollow farm. This land was later sold and another farm was purchased in the Poplar Grove community near Kingsport.
William Henry Wallen was known as "Poppy" to his children and grandchildren. He was an expert on all things related to farming and livestock and also knowledgeable about home cures and folk medicine.
He took and active part in the Primitive Baptist Church all his life.
