"Robert W. McCleskey wrote in 1972: "I have no information on my grandfather other than he lived and ran a small general store near Gadsden, Alabama, migrated to Denton, Texas, along about 1891 where he was a farmer and Methodist minister." This served to identify his family as my father's kin; my father had told me about a cousin Joseph Howell McCleskey who lived in the Denton area and was a Methodist minister."
