Charles Rudolph "Dolph" Martin

(November 28, 1844 - February 21, 1925)

"Charles Rudolph (Dolph) fought in the Civil War. He loved to go to all the Confederate Reunions. He and Mr. Alf Jarvis of Union County, Mississippi were the last confederate soldiers in Union County. The following is from the NEW ALBANY GAZETTE, a weekly county paper. After a long illness, suffering much pain in his latter days, "Uncle Dolph' Martin is dead. We had no better citizen in Union County than Mr. Martin. He was a Christian soldier, ready for the issue. Several days before his death, he assured his family that he was ready to go when his "Master" called. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He took pride in the fact that he was a CONFEDERATE SOLDIER." (A FAMILY HISTORY 1559 - 1979, by Mildred King Whitten, 616 N. Madison Street, Tupelo, Mississippi 38801, pages 66 - 67.)
