Alexander Porterfield
(Abt, 1847 - June 16, 1865)
"Private Alexander Porterfield, born in 1847, died as a Prisoner of War on June 16th, 1865 at Point Lookout, Maryland. He was a member of Company C, 3rd North Carolina Junior Reserve. He was captured at Fort Fisher, North Carolina on December 25th, 1864. There were 3 regiments of North Carolina Junior Reseves made up of seventeen year olds that joined in 1864 near the end of the war. Note that he died two months after the war but was still held in prison. I believe he is the son of your Jackson Porterfield." (Charles Purser, Garner, North Carolina, CPurser@nc.rr.com, March 2006.)
