"NEIGHBORS PLAN TO JOIN WILLIE'S BASH ... Carl's Corner, Texas (AP) - Singer Willie Nelson's tradition July Fourth Concert isn't expected to raise complaints this year from residents near the site of the rowdy annual bash. That's because most of the 180 residents of Carl's Corner, the concert's site, say they plan to join in the noisy, beer-drinking fest. About 100,000 people are expected. Carl's Corner was a truck stop until Mayor Carl Cornelius, who owns most of town's tow square miles, decided to incorporate. A board of aldermen was chosen and Cornelius became mayor. Cornelius said he's looking forward to the affair. "Willie and I are old friends," he said. "That's why he's coming here." This year's lineup includes Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris and Waylon Jennings. The concert site will be near the intersections of Interstate 35E and Farm-to-Market 2959, about 45 miles south of Dallas and four miles north of Hillsboro. "I think it'll be one of the biggest events Hill County ever had," Cornelius said. "And, who knows, if it goes well, we may have it here again next year. Maybe it'll have a permanent home." Cornelius presides over the town's center of commerce from an office equipped with 10 television monitors, most of them connected to cameras that keep watch inside and out. "Carl and Linda, his second wife live in Hillsboro, Texas, as of 1991. He founded a town near there, "CARL'S CORNERS," which was centered around a large truck stop. The truck stop burned late in 1990, I understand he has plans to rebuild. Carl and Lynn, his first wife, were divorced in October of 1970." (Judia Terry 1997.)
