Noble N. "Whit" Whitworth

(July 30, 1898 - November 10, 1969)

"Whit was one of my favorite people. They should have called him Wit, he was so cute and funny. He told me about the time when his family went to a camp meeting, he was about ten at the time; well the preaching had gone on all day long and way into the night, with no sign of stopping; you must realize they were in the middle of nowhere, people had come from miles and miles around. there were people there who only saw each other every year or so. Well the babies and young children were sound asleep in the buggies and buckboards, and the older kids were very restless, so they schuffled the sleeping children around, and when everyone started home in the moonlight, they didn't bother to wake the sleeping children in the back. Whit said he waited until his parents were dead before he told that story. He said it caused such a furor, every one was so mad. Babies couldn't tell anyone where they lived, some of them were too young to talk. He said it was months before some of them made it back home. Whit was a druggist and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a world class domino player. Whit was a Mason of high rank. His funeral was handled by Blackburn- Shaw Memorial Chapel in Amarillo, Texas, with Dr. Harry Vanderpool officiating.
