"John Gentry sold his home in Johnson County, Tennessee and moved to ash County, North Carolina in 1854. Returned to Johnson County, Tennessee during the Civil War. Tradition: John Gentry reared John Wesley Blackburn, born Ash County, North Carolina, son of Nancy Blackburn. John returned from the Civil War to Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. He took the three younger children to Damascus, Virginia, his 2nd wife Nancy Blackburn and one small daughter, perhaps Martha A. Drowned during a flash flood at Gentry's Creek. No records or grave markers found. (None for John either) at Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee. Brother "Tom Red" care for the small children until John Wesley Blackburn returned. The home place and property was sold at auction on Gentry's Creek at the end of the Civil War." (Ray E. Marland, 2009.)
